Summer Portrait

This is one of my favorite art works hanging in my home. A commissioned piece from 2008 of my two oldest children, painted by the lovely and talented Kate Geraci. It captures my children's personalities perfectly in my gardens with my daughter's fairy dress and bow catching butterflies and my son's love of his animals as he holds a Rhode Island Red chicken from one of our first flocks. The gardens were in full bloom with bachelor buttons, sun drops, yarrow, daisies, day lilies and Japanese anemones. It is a constant reminder for me that my now teenagers, who spend hours on Snapchat and Tik Tok, did grow up outside immersed in nature. This was one of my favorite summers; working in the gardens, planting vegetables with the kids, painting with water colors outside on the terrace, having lemonade and farm fresh egg stands at the end of the driveway. I feel so fortunate to have this painting as a constant reminder of those happy times.
